In SGI Nichiren Buddhism, “moving your heart” means changing your life from the inside out. Nichiren Daishonin taught that “it is the heart that is important,” emphasizing that our inner attitude, determination, and faith strongly influence how we experience life. Although we cannot always control what happens around us, we can transform the way we respond to difficulties.
Rather than allowing circumstances to determine whether we feel defeated or hopeful, we can develop the courage and wisdom to face challenges directly. This inner transformation—often called human revolution—is more than simply trying to feel better; it is a deep change in how we think, believe, and live.
In daily practice, we “move our heart” by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with determination and taking positive action based on the wisdom and courage that emerge from within. Through chanting, we seek to bring forth our inherent Buddhahood—the highest potential for wisdom, compassion, courage, and resilience—and use it to transform both ourselves and our circumstances.
Moving our heart also changes the way we relate to other people: instead of remaining isolated or indifferent, we reach out, listen, encourage, and share in others' struggles. In this sense, transforming the heart is not only about becoming stronger ourselves; it is about using that inner strength to create hope, connection, and positive change in the world around us.
MOVE YOUR HEART
Don’t cut your wings; you were born to fly
You’ve got a fire they can’t deny
Every step, feel the ground respond
What you believe pulls the future on
Move your heart, feel it start
When you chant, the world aligns
Say it loud, feel it spark
What you want comes alive
From dry days to a river of green
You turn the dust into a dream
Break the wall, cross the line
When you decide, the stars say, “fine”
Move your heart, feel it start
When you chant, the world aligns
Say it loud, feel it spark
What you want comes alive
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo
No more standing in the same old place
You turn the dust into gold lace
Break it open, cross that line
Once you choose, the world says, “fine”
Move your heart, feel the sound
When you chant, life turns around
Say it now, make it start
Everything moves when you move your heart
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo
Move your heart, feel the sound
When you chant, life turns around
Say it now, make it start
Everything moves when you move your heart
